Hull CVS was established in 1981 with the aim of supporting the development of voluntary and community groups and volunteering in Hull.

Volunteering is in our DNA and from our inception we have been committed to supporting volunteering in Hull. Across the Hull CVS group, volunteers have played and continue to play a vital role in helping us to respond to the needs of the voluntary sector, by undertaking a multitude of roles including events support, gathering views, administration, developing marketing and literature, and so much more.

As the Accredited Volunteer Centre for Hull, we offer a range of support for people who want to volunteer; for organisations who involve volunteers; and local businesses that engage their employees in volunteering. We take our role seriously and support hundreds of people into volunteering roles every year.

We are passionate about promoting the valuable contribution of volunteers to local community and community groups, neighbourhoods, and society in general. To this end, we lead on local activity for both Volunteer Week and Trustee Week, whilst taking all opportunities to promote and celebrate volunteer’s contribution via awards and sharing of case studies.

It is vital that volunteers are supported and developed during their volunteering journey. We support organisations to develop volunteer centred policies that equip volunteers to be trained effectively for roles; encourage named members of staff to support them; and easily accessible processes to claim back mileage and expenses. We therefore advocate on behalf of volunteers and strive to drive up local standards in how volunteers are recruited, trained and mentored in achieving their personal goals.

In addition, we know that volunteer mangers from across Hull have a challenging job, so we have established the Volunteer Managers and Co-ordinators Network. This peer-to-peer network is a place where volunteer managers can share best practice and support one another.

Taking all the above into account, we are delighted to lead on the development of Time2Volunteer, along with HEY Smile Foundation, as we put volunteers at the heart of volunteering.
