Jan Jones, HER Breast Friends

This nomination was originally submitted for the Founding Volunteer Award, but received the Special Recognition Award.

Jan, a breast cancer patient, recognised the need for practical and emotional cancer support.

Alongside Liz Drury, they fundraised and established a charity providing essential services for those affected. From comfy chairs in hospitals to equipment for better treatment, Jan’s dedication was unwavering. 

Despite never receiving recognition during her lifetime, her impact was profound. She created HER Breast Friends, a haven for patients, families, and friends. Jan’s smile and spirit inspired a positive community, forging lasting friendships. 

Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, making the breast cancer journey more manageable. She showed that even in adversity, smiles and compassion can make an immeasurable difference.

Jan's Award was accepted on her behalf by her family and friends, and staff and volunteers from HER Breast Friends.
