Barbara Swann, Hull Churches Homes from Hospital

Barbara, aged 79, is a dedicated Volunteer Carer, providing essential respite through a home sitting service, granting caregivers cherished breaks.

With care and compassion, she nurtures their loved ones and serves as a trusted companion during their time out of the home.

Barbara’s devotion extends over 11 years, supporting 2 families weekly for half a day each. Barbara’s exceptional service even involves mentoring fellow volunteers within the organisation, underscoring her invaluable contributions that exceed expectations.

Barbara was unable to join us at the Awards, so her Award was accepted on her behalf.

Barbara later told us: "When Nicky told me that she had nominated me, I said I am sure that I do not do any more than any other volunteer at HCHfH, but it was nice to be recognised.

The people to be admired are the clients that I sit for. I volunteer 1 day a week. The people that I sit for have 7 days a week, 24 hours a day caring for their loved ones except for the 2 to 3 hours a week for themselves when I sit.

I was so looking forward to attending the Awards, and after boasting that I had never had Covid, I couldn’t believe that I got it this week."
