Active & Sports - Liam Bexon (Eastrington Sports Club)

Liam has been a committed volunteer at Eastrington Sports Club for over five years, playing a central role in maintaining and supporting the village’s cricket programme. He spends between 25 and 30 hours a week during the cricket season coaching young players, preparing the pitch, managing the grounds, and ensuring basic facilities—like the environmental toilet—are in working order. In the off-season, Liam continues coaching indoors and remains active on the Playing Field Committee. All of this is done alongside his full-time job and family life.

His work enables around 80 local children to access regular cricket coaching, helping them develop skills, confidence, and a sense of team spirit. He also helps organise and support fundraising activities that contribute to the club’s long-term sustainability and the development of a new pavilion. Without his input, the scale and consistency of cricket activity at the club simply wouldn’t be possible.

Liam’s support has had a significant impact on individual players, including one young athlete, William, who has progressed through the club’s teams to captain East Yorkshire’s U11 and U12 squads. William’s experience shows how the environment fostered by volunteers like Liam can help young people grow not just as players, but in confidence, leadership, and ambition. Liam’s contribution is fundamental to keeping local sport running smoothly. Through consistent effort and commitment, he has created opportunities for dozens of children to stay active and engaged in their community.
