Hull What's On recently visited some incredible volunteers who host activities and events for local veterans each week, making a profound difference in their lives.
MASH is an organisation based in Bridlington, organised by dedicated volunteers such as Terry and Sue, who work in partnership with East Riding of Yorkshire Council to address a gap in services much needed to support local veterans.
With the support of groups like the HEY Smile Foundation, they've extended their reach across East Yorkshire, touching the lives of those currently serving, veterans, and their families.
The centre, kindly provided by Bridlington Town FC, serves as a hub for weekly activities and events, such as the Beetle Drive.
For many veterans, these gatherings are the chance to socialise and engage in a supportive environment which can be transformative, providing much-needed interaction and a sense of community.
Hull What's On spoke to a few regulars during our visit, and their stories were heartwarming. They shared how MASH has given them the opportunity to meet new people and forge new friendships. For some, it’s the highlight of their week, breaking the isolation that so many face.
Terry and Sue are part of a dedicated team of volunteers at MASH, and more volunteers would make a world of difference, allowing them to expand their efforts and host even more events.
MASH is just one of the amazing community projects in Hull & East Yorkshire!
