Volunteer Centres are local organisations that provide support and expertise within communities, to potential volunteers, existing volunteers, and organisations that involve volunteers.

They are a good place for one-to-one support when starting to look for volunteering opportunities in the local area. They can find out what you're interested in doing and try to match you with a suitable volunteering role with a local charity or voluntary organisation.

These centres offer a range of information and support for people who want to volunteer; for voluntary and community organisations who involve volunteers; and local businesses that engage their employees in team building volunteering.

They advise hundreds of people each year who are keen to find out about interesting and rewarding volunteering opportunities.

The Volunteer Centre offers the following services:

  • Linking people with volunteering opportunities that match their interests, skills and knowledge
  • Supporting people to search for local volunteer opportunities
  • Running a brokerage for volunteers and volunteer involving organisations
  • Assisting voluntary organisations to support and manage volunteers through specialist volunteer management training and good practice guides
  • Promoting and advocating volunteering; working in close partnership with public sector bodies, the private sector and voluntary and community organisations
  • Supporting employers to encourage volunteers to take time out during the working week to put something back in the communities in which they live.

There are two accredited volunteer centres in the Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire area.
